In May 2020, the death of George Floyd sparked an international movement known as Black Lives Matter (BLM). George was a victim of police brutality as a Black man in the USA and his death was the catalyst for an ongoing series of police brutality protests that acknowledged societal inequalities.

cbpGIVES recognized that the firm’s support to the BLM movement, by supporting external organizations, could help to implement the change we want to see in the pursuit for racial equity. In solidarity with the BLM movement, and as a firm committed to inclusivity, diversity, and a safe environment for all, CBPartners donated $25,000 cumulatively to Campaign Zero and Know Your Rights on behalf of everyone at the firm.

The cbpGIVES team believed the donations would be most impactful to these smaller organizations who are at the grassroot level. Campaign Zero promotes legal empowerment to individuals by promoting policy, while Know Your Rights promotes self-empowerment through education and mass-mobilization around law enforcement interaction.

cbpGIVES continue to monitor both organizations as well as other organizations such as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) as they carry through their missions to eliminate disparities. While as a firm we continue to educate ourselves about Black history and foster discussions that will help enact long-lasting positive change and promote equality and justice.
