Virtual SUMMIT 2020

Last year was unique in many ways. 2020 was a year that changed everything, the routines that were once so familiar to us were disrupted as we all adapted to new ways of working and living due to the pandemic. As a global firm, CBPartners is familiar with virtual meetings, but this is not typical for SUMMIT, the firm’s annual conference.

During two weeks in December, the firm enjoyed Virtual SUMMIT 2020 from our individual remote working locations. While in 2019 we were fortunate enough to spend a week in warmer climates having travelled to Miami, Florida – 2020 was different, but still allowed us to take the time to be “together” and reflect on our accomplishments.

Highlights of the Talks, Training, and Activities

The introduction and organized ice-breaker event for the first day of Virtual SUMMIT 2020 was based around the importance of giving back. Each employee received a gift basket filled with items from chosen charitable partners. With a theme of ‘cosy’, the firm tucked into making s’mores together while on screenshare. The gift basket aided as a critical reminder of the hardships many have faced during the year.

Some of the items in the gift basket included: some sweet treats from This Saves Lives, a camp mug or tumbler from Kula Project, a tote bag from FEED, a blanket from Wakened Apparel, and a Prosperity Candle.

It is tradition for several team building activities to be enjoyed during SUMMIT, and this year was no different. The first activity was making s’mores together using the kit from the gift basket. Further activities saw us take part in a global reaching escape room organized by puzzlebreak, as well as our all-time favourite CBP trivia which often poses the question, how well do we really know our colleagues? (Not as well as we think we do).

Growth and Development in 2020

During the second week of Virtual SUMMIT 2020, there were various CBP Academy training sessions that focused on professional development across levels, including modules such as teaching and presenting best practices.

The firm also enjoyed various talks which were presented by new and existing firm-building initiative teams, and there was even an internal awards ceremony to highlight some outstanding initiatives that have proven a durable, tangible impact within CBPartners.

The Women@CBP team organized for Erica Jones, a guest speaker, to join us for an interactive presentation which explored the concept of intersectionality as a framework, lens, and a tool.

Erica is charged with leading the development of anti-racism curriculum for faculty and staff at The American School, London, as well as launching affinity groups, and creating and reinvigorating professional development and recruitment practices.

The session began with a TED talk by Kimberlie Crenshaw – The urgency of intersectionality, followed by an interactive lecture by Erica examining the body of intersectionality and touching upon moments in time this framework that has impacted identity and our individual experiences.

Virtual SUMMIT 2020 closed out with a final “Year in Review” meeting which allowed the firm to reflect on the accomplishments achieved, as well as set the tone for 2021.
